Introduction
Mpact Plastic Containers is seeking a skilled SHEQ Officer to support our manufacturing operations by driving compliance with Safety, Health, Environment, Food Safety, and Quality standards across the Atlantis site. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of ISO standards, solid manufacturing experience, and the ability to influence a positive SHEQ culture.
Job description
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct quality inspections on raw materials, WIP, and finished goods (SANS standards & SPC analysis).
- Maintain and improve the integrated SHEQ Management System (ISO 9001, 14001 and 22000, where applicable).
- Deliver SHEQ training, including inductions, safety awareness and legal compliance training.
- Record, investigate, and report incidents, hazards, and near-misses; support COID processes.
- Update risk assessments and environmental aspects/impacts registers.
- Coordinate emergency drills, legal compliance checks, and internal audits.
- Manage supplier audits and track corrective actions.
- Monitor contractor and security compliance, including access control and CCTV checks.
- Prepare weekly and monthly SHEQ reports and ensure accurate document control.
Minimum requirements
- Matric with Mathematics/Maths Literacy (≥50%)
- SAMTRAC or NEBOSH IGC (compulsory)
- ISO 9001, ISO 14001 & ISO 22000 Internal Auditor certificates
- 3–5 years’ SHEQ experience in a manufacturing environment (plastics/FMCG/packaging advantageous)
- Strong data analysis, attention to detail, and MS Office proficiency
- Knowledge of COID, OHS Act, NEMA, waste management, and SHEQ legislative requirements
